GS1 128
What is GS1 128?
GS1-128 is the implementation standard of the Code 128 barcode specification. The previous name for this standard was UCC/EAN-128. This standard was adopted by GS1 in 1992 and is used by most manufacturers and other companies that require a coded way to communicate with their customers.
GS1-128 barcodes have multiple data element fields to represent information. Each field represents one of the many categories of items that a company sells. These codes are standardized and are widely used by retailers. Unlike other codes, the GS1-128 provides valuable data for business transactions and distribution. In addition, they provide more information about a product than other standard codes like the JAN code or the ITF code. In addition to providing important data, GS1-128 barcodes are also easy to read, making it easier for consumers to identify a product with a GS1 label.
