EPC (Electronic Product Code)

What is EPC?

Electronic Product Code. A serial number containing information that identifies the manufacturer, product category and item.

It is a universal identifier that gives a unique identity to a specific item in the supply chain, much like a digital version of a barcode. EPCs are used primarily within RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems to allow for the tracking of objects as they move through various points in the supply chain. The code is stored on an RFID tag, which can be attached to or embedded in an object, and can be read by RFID readers from a distance, making the process of tracking and managing inventory more efficient.

The EPC is designed to provide detailed information such as manufacturer, item type, and a serial number unique to each item, facilitating greater accuracy and visibility in logistics operations.
