Hybrid (Semi-Active) RFID Tag

What is a Hybrid RFID Tag?

A hybrid RFID tag is a tag that has a small internal power supply, is triggered by a reader. After interrogation, the tag goes back to being passive.

Hybrid RFID tags combine the advantages of passive and active RFID tags. The latter uses a local power source and sends its own signal. This makes them the ideal solution for tracking large and expensive assets. They are more expensive and can only be read at short ranges. On the downside, these tags are larger and can’t be positioned where they won’t be detected.
