Hey everybody, and welcome to MarkMagic video tutorials. Today I’m going to show you how to add variable graphics to your forms.
If you’re worried because you’ve had a bad experience trying to add variable data or variable graphics to your forms before, don’t worry—it’s really easy to do with MarkMagic.
So, on this statement here, we’re printing the customer ID number using a data field. The data field is mapped to the spool file at 10 positions. If you check page one, the customer ID number is 10050. On page two, it’s 13200, and on page three, it’s 21250.
We already have a text field on this form that’s printing out the ID number, but we also want a logo to print on each page that corresponds with the correct report. We already have the graphics converted here.
Take a look at the graphic names—that’s where the customer ID number is located. During the graphic conversion process, we have the option of customizing the graphic names, so it’s important to set those names exactly to match the variable information from your spool file. In this case, Graphic 1 is 21250, Graphic 2 is 10050, and Graphic 3 is 13200.
Click OK, and then all we have to do is add a new graphic to the form. Change the graphic name to * (asterisk link). This allows us to tie the graphic to the customer ID number.
One important thing here is that we have to tell MarkMagic which piece of variable information we’re linking to, and what that should be compared against in the graphic. Graphics can have graphic numbers, graphic names, or descriptions. We want to compare the data to the graphic name, so choose N as the reference type. When you choose N, you’ll see that the length changes to 10.
Click OK, save the document, and now let’s run a quick print preview. You’ll see the Tail Logo shows up on the first page,
EdgeMagic on the second page, and the CYBRA logo on the third page.
And that’s how you add a variable graphic to your forms. Thank you!
