What is SSCC?
The SSCC is a globally unique number that identifies shipments and can be used for tracking. It is assigned once and is useful for all parties in the transportation chain. It can also be used as a callback number. The GS1 Prefix is defined in the config. The SSCC range is assigned to the config. The SSCC number range can be seen in the HU master data under the ‘additional data’ tab.
The GS1 Company Prefix is a mandatory part of the SSCC process. It must be acquired by a company in order to use the SSCC. The GS1 Company Prefix can be from seven to nine digits long. The serial reference is the combination of the GS1 Company Prefix and a serial number assigned to the individual ASIN. The SSCC code is unique within each shipment and is not overlapping with any other number on the same pallet.
SSCC labels are used to identify different logistic units in the supply chain. For example, if 5 identical logistic units are sent, each one will have a unique SSCC code. The SSCC number helps identify the unit. It also serves as a single point of truth for the shipping process. A GS1 company prefix is seven or nine digits long and is assigned to each company. It indicates the authority assigned to the business.
