Ribbon

What is a Ribbon in Printing?

A printing ribbon is a thin ribbon that carries ink onto a surface. The material it is printed on is a crucial factor in the transfer of ink. The type of paper or other substance you use will affect the type of ribbon you need. Ribbons are used by thermal transfer printers to produce visible marks on a label. This is done by heating a printhead, causing the ribbon to be burned on the label stock which generates a barcode or other image.
