X-dimension

What is X-dimension?

The width of the narrow bars and spaces in a bar code type; usually measured in mils. It is often expressed as multiple, as in 1X or 10X.

When you are creating a barcode, you need to know the dimensions of the smallest elements. This number is measured in millimeters, and is a very important factor in how a barcode functions. This figure determines how wide the bars or spaces are. Different scanners are able to read different x-dimensions, so it’s important to understand how each metric is calculated.
