Work with Sequence Numbers
Use the Work with Sequence Numbers dialog to create and manage your defined sequence numbers. A sequence number is a user defined numerical value that MarkMagic can manipulate and keep track of over time. When a sequence number that you define is printed on a MarkMagic label or form, the current value is recalled, then it is is incremented / decremented according to how it is configured here and the new value is then stored for later use.
By default, MarkMagic ships with no sequence numbers defined. Start by clicking the Add button to create a new Sequence Number. There are also buttons used to Edit, Delete or Reset an individual sequence number.
- Group - Specify the group name. Sequence numbers can be defined in groups to keep them organized. For example, if you were keeping track of serial numbers for different types of items, you could organize them under a common group called ITEMS.
- Name - The name of the sequence number. You can customize the name of each sequence number you create.
- Group Descriptions - The description of the sequence number group.
- Description - Sequence number description.
- Length - Numerical field length of the sequence number. For example, 9999 is 4 in length.
- Decimals - The number of decimal places the sequence number will have. For example, 99.99 is 4 length with 2 decimals.
- Current value - Use this field to set the current value.
- Increment Type - Specify whether the sequence number should count up or count down. Increasing means it should increment up. Decreasing indicates that it should count down.
- Increment Value - The amount that the sequence number should increment or decrement by.
- Starting Sequence Number - Define the starting value of the sequence number.
- Ending Sequence Number - Define the ending value of the sequence number.
- Reset - Specify whether or not the sequence number should reset once it reaches the Ending Sequence Number value.
- Reset value - If Reset=Yes, then this is the value that the sequence number will be reset to.
- Active - Specify whether the sequence number is active or inactive. Inactive sequence numbers will not increment / decrement even if they are printed on a format.
If you have many sequence numbers and you wish to reset them all using one button, click the Reset All button on the bottom left. There is also a Reset All menu option for this as well.
After defining your sequence numbers here, you will then be able to assign them to any *SEQ fields you might have on your format design.
